Ferritin
Ferritin is a protein that stores iron inside your cells. You need iron to make healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body. Iron is also important for healthy muscles, bone marrow, and organs, including brain development in children.
Why test this: Best test for iron stores — if you have fatigue, heavy periods, hair loss, or restless legs; also checks overload.
Folic Acid/Folate
Folic acid (folate) is a B vitamin essential for DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, and cell division. Low levels can cause megaloblastic anaemia and are linked to neural tube defects in pregnancy.
Why test this: Often with B12 in anaemia or malnutrition; important in pregnancy planning.
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 helps support energy production, healthy nerve function, red blood cell formation, and brain health. It may help reduce tiredness caused by deficiency and support overall wellness.
Why test this: If you are vegetarian/vegan, older, have fatigue, numbness/tingling, or megaloblastic anaemia — B12 deficiency is common.
